I've attached my model here as well in the case that it is user error on my part casing the unfold script to fail. My question is, is there a similar method / plugin to unfold in this manner or is there a way to propose a feature to add into the "Sheet Metal" workbench to allow for the user to step through the unfold process one by one? In Sketchup there was a similar unfold tool that I used however it was a bit more simple in that it did not try to guess how the part should be unfolded, it just allowed you to select two faces and it would flatten them while keeping them attached to the rest of the model to continue flattening. I have found however that the unfold tool for whatever reasons seems to fail, as if there is just too much complexity in the part. For the most part I have my design completed however I have encountered an issue how where I need to unfold my design in order to create the flat pattern drawing to go to the laser cutter. All of my products are created from 12g stainless steel so I was using the "Sheet Metal" workbench which I found quite useful. I am just now getting to the point where I think I can be somewhat productive and I am trying to recreate one of my parts. Choose a place to save your SVG file, click save, and you’re done! Now you can open it in a program like Illustrator or Inkscape to color and/or print it.I've been using Sketchup for several years now to design my sheet metal products but decided to switch to FreeCAD because of some limitations I was encountering. Then select the group and press the SVG Export button. With the Select tool, click away from your model to step out of the group. While you’re making a tab, it will also show how that tab will overlap on the face it will be glued to. Just like the Reunite Edges tool, the tab tool will hilight an edges partner when you hover over it. Press Control to switch between trapezoid and triangle tabs. You can also enter sizes in the Value Control Box. For custom sized tabs, click once on an edge and move the mouse outward.

For a simple 1/4 inch tab, just double-click on the edge you want the tab added to. This sketchup video presents a bundle of totally free sketchup plugins which are compatible with sketchup 2015 and sketchup 2016. Click on one, and all the selected faces will be picked up and moved so that the selected edge and its partner are reunited. While you hover over edges, their partners will be highlighted in red. Click on the faces you want to move to select them. From here you can change how your model is unfolded. First, with the pointer tool, double click on the group containing your flattened model to enter the group. When your model is completely unfolded, you may want to adjust it with the Reunite Edges tool. Then, when you click on a face to unfold to, all of the selected faces will be unfolded at the same time. You can hold shift and click on faces to select several at once. To deselect the selected face, click away from your model. The two will then be grouped together and selected, so you can continue unfolding the two of them to the next neighboring face. The selected face will be unfolded so that it is flat with the second face. unfold and flatten the outer shell, remove faces, color the lines and print the 2d lines. With this tool selected, click once to select a face, then click again on a neighboring face. Once I am happy, with the model, I delete the thickness. Once your model is indexed, it’s time to start unfolding. This is critical for the Reunite Edges tool, and helpful for the Add Tabs tool. This marks all of the edges in your model so that later, when your model is unfolded, Flattery will know what used to be connected. The plugin supports SketchUp 2014 as well as the older SketchUp 7, 8 and SketchUp 2013 versions.

SketchUp 2014 is now out and with it we have an updated KeyShot plugin for you to roll right into the new version. Unwrella is designed to relieve 3D artists and studios from tedious manual UV work in order to quickly deliver quality unwraps for Arch-Viz, game levels, industrial assets, photogrammetry, kit-bash and sculpting markets. When your model is fully constructed, and you are about to unfold it, select the entire thing and press the Index Edges button. Modeled in SketchUp and rendered in KeyShot.
